A Prayer Most People Avoid
Psalm 139:23 (KJV)
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.
This is a dangerous prayer, and David prays it anyway. Search me. Go through the whole house. Open the rooms I keep shut.
Most of our praying is about circumstances — change this situation, provide for that need, move this person. Very little of it invites God to examine us. We would rather He fixed the weather than inspected the foundations.
But notice who is doing the searching. Not an enemy looking for evidence. Not a crowd waiting to be disappointed. The God who already knows and stayed anyway. He is not searching to find a reason to leave; He is searching because things buried in the dark do not heal.
There is a room you have not opened with Him. Say the prayer today, then stay quiet long enough to hear the answer. It will be gentler than you fear and more specific than you expect.
