A Wall of Fire
Zechariah 2:5 (KJV)
For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.
Jerusalem had no walls. That was the problem the prophet was looking at — a city too exposed to defend. God's answer is not to send builders. I will be unto her a wall of fire round about.
Two things are promised, and they go in opposite directions. A wall round about — protection on the outside. And the glory in the midst — presence on the inside. God does not only keep danger out; He fills the space that the danger was threatening.
We spend enormous energy being our own wall. We rehearse conversations, we control what people think, we lie awake guarding a reputation or a child or a business. It is exhausting work, and it is a job that was already taken.
There is something you have been walling with worry. Say plainly today that it is His to guard. Then go and do the work of the day inside the wall, instead of standing on it all night.
