According to His Riches

Philippians 4:19 (KJV)

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Two small words carry this verse: according to. Not out of His riches — that would only mean He takes a little from a large pile. According to means the supply matches the scale of the source.

And notice the word need. Not every want. Paul is writing from prison to people who had just given sacrificially, and he is promising that God does not let generous people fall through the floor. It is a promise about provision, not luxury.

Most of our worry does arithmetic with the wrong number. We look at the income, the price, the deadline, and calculate whether it can be done. God's supply is not calculated from your salary. It is calculated from His riches, and He has many ways to move them that do not appear on your payslip.

Name your actual need today, plainly. Then stop doing the arithmetic that leaves Him out of it.
