One Thing
Psalm 27:4 (KJV)
One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life.
One thing. David was a king with a hundred legitimate concerns — armies, enemies, a nation, a family. And he narrows it to one.
Most of us are not short of desires. We are short of a main one. Our wanting is spread so wide that nothing gets pursued properly: a little prayer, a little ambition, a little comfort, a little ministry, all running at once and all slightly starved.
Notice that David's one thing is not an outcome. It is a place — that I may dwell in the house of the LORD. He does not ask God for the win. He asks for nearness, and lets the rest follow.
Write down what you actually want at the moment. All of it, honestly. Then look at the list and ask which one, if you had it, would make the others matter less. That is worth seeking after.
