Spirit and Truth
John 4:24 (KJV)
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Two words, and worship needs both. Spirit — from the inside, genuinely engaged. Truth — about God as He actually is, not as we prefer Him.
Spirit without truth becomes feeling. It rises and falls with the music, the crowd and the week you are having, and when the feeling goes we assume God went with it. Truth without spirit becomes performance. Every word correct, nothing behind it, a body in a seat.
Jesus said this to a woman who was arguing about the right place to worship. He moved the whole question. It is not about the mountain or the temple, the building or the style. It is about what is happening inside a person who is telling God the truth.
