The Pure in Heart

Matthew 5:8 (KJV)

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

The promise is sight. They shall see God. Which means the opposite is also true: an unclean heart makes God harder to see.

We usually think of impurity as a moral problem, and it is. But this verse frames it as a vision problem. Whatever we are hiding gets between us and God, the way dirt on a window does not stop the sun but does stop you seeing it.

Pure in heart does not mean flawless. The word carries the idea of unmixed — one thing, not two. A heart that is not divided between God and something it will not surrender. Most of us do not struggle with wanting God; we struggle with wanting God and.

If God has seemed distant lately, the problem may not be His silence. Ask what you have been managing rather than confessing. Deal with it, and see whether the view clears.
