The Root Is Love, Not Money
1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV)
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Read it carefully, because this verse is misquoted more than almost any other. It does not say money is the root of evil. It says the love of money is.
Money itself is a tool. God gives power to get wealth, and wealth in the hands of a godly person feeds families, funds the gospel and builds things that last. There is nothing holy about being broke.
The danger is in the word coveted — money moving from tool to treasure, from servant to master. And notice what it costs: they erred from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Those are self-inflicted wounds. Nobody else does this to you.
A simple test: what have you sacrificed for money this year? Some sacrifice is honest work. But if the answer includes your integrity, your family or your walk with God, the tool has become the master.
