Good News for the Broken
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.
To bind up the brokenhearted. This is God describing His own assignment, and it is aimed at a very specific group: the ones who are already broken.
Binding up is medical language. It is what you do with a wound — clean it, close it, hold it together while it heals. It takes time and it involves touching the sore place. That is worth knowing, because many of us pray for healing while carefully keeping God away from the actual injury.
Notice also who the good news is for. Not the impressive. The meek, the brokenhearted, the captives, the bound. If you have ever felt too damaged to be useful to God, this verse says you are not the exception to His work — you are the target of it.
Let Him near the sore place today. And then look around: someone within reach is carrying the same thing quietly. Bound-up people make the best binders.
Prayer: Lord, bind up what is broken in me, and use me to bind up someone else.
Today’s action: Reach out today to one person you know is quietly hurting.
Have you let God near the part of you that is actually broken?
