He Calls You Friend

Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends.

A servant knows the task. A friend knows the heart. Jesus moved His disciples from one to the other, and He did it deliberately: I have called you friends.

Many believers are excellent servants and lonely friends. They serve faithfully, give faithfully, show up faithfully — and have almost no conversation with God that is not a request or a report. They know what He wants done. They do not know what He is like.

A servant relationship is built on performance, so it lives in fear of falling short. A friendship is built on knowing, so it survives a bad week. That is why this promotion matters. It is not a change in your duties; it is a change in your standing.

Come to Him today with no agenda. Tell Him something you would only tell a friend. He already called you one.
