Renewed, Not Conformed

Romans 12:2 (KJV)

Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.

There are only two things that can happen to a mind: it is shaped by the world, or it is changed by God. The first happens without you trying. Sit long enough in what the world keeps saying, and you begin to think like it without ever deciding to. The second only happens on purpose — by renewing your mind.

Notice where the change starts. Not with what you do, but with how you think. Change the way you think, and changed living follows. Try to change the fruit without changing the root, and it never lasts.

Renewing your mind is not something you do once. It is washing your mind with truth every day. Your mind becomes what you feed it. Fill it with the world’s fear, comparison, and lies, and it will be shaped by them. Fill it with God’s Word, and God will change you — and you will see for yourself what His good and perfect will really is.

Prayer: Father, renew my mind. Where the world has shaped my thinking, reshape it with Your truth.

Today’s action: Feed your mind one true thing today — a verse, a psalm — to start replacing an old habit of thought.

What way of thinking have you picked up from the world that God wants to renew?
