Free From the Borrower’s Chain

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

Scripture is direct about debt: the borrower is servant to the lender. It does not call borrowing a sin, but it tells you what it costs — a kind of slavery, a chain that limits you and follows you into the future.

Much of the world is built on getting you to borrow for things you cannot yet afford, so you can feel rich today and pay for it with your tomorrows. But God’s way builds freedom: live on what He provides, refuse the pull to impress people, and keep loosening the chains debt has put on you.

If you are under that weight, do not lose hope — but do not ignore it either. Make a plan. Take one step, then another. Cut back, pay down, and refuse to add more. Every payment breaks one more link. God wants you free — not a servant to a lender, but someone who manages God’s money well, ruling over what you have instead of being ruled by it.
