The Father Who Ran

Luke 15:20 (KJV)

But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

The son had a speech prepared. He had rehearsed how unworthy he was, how he would settle for being a servant. He never got to finish it, because his father was already running.

When he was yet a great way off. The father was watching the road. He had been watching it for a long time. And the moment there was a shape on the horizon that might be his son, he did the undignified thing and ran.

Most of us come back to God the way that son came home — slowly, with a speech about how little we deserve, expecting a cold face and a long probation. We are so busy rehearsing our unworthiness that we miss the fact that He has been watching the road.

There is something you have been avoiding Him with. Start walking back. You will not get through your speech.
