The Words and the Thoughts

Psalm 19:14 (KJV)

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

David asks for two things to be acceptable, not one. The words of my mouth — what people hear. The meditation of my heart — what nobody hears.

Most of us manage the first and neglect the second. We are careful in public and unguarded in private, and we assume the gap does not matter because it does not show. But the meditation of the heart is the source. What runs quietly in there eventually leaks out — in tone, in decisions, in how we treat people who cannot help us.

Meditation just means what you turn over and over. Everyone meditates. The only question is on what: an offence, a fear, a desire, or the goodness of God.

Ask for both today. Clean speech built on a bitter heart does not last. Ask Him to work down where nobody but Him can see.

Prayer: Lord, make my words and my thoughts agree, and make both of them acceptable to you.

Today’s action: Notice one thing you say today that does not match what you are actually thinking, and deal with the thought.
