Set Up a Stone

Genesis 28:18 (KJV)

And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar.

Jacob had an encounter with God in the night. In the morning, he did something very ordinary: he took the stone he had slept on and stood it up.

He was making a marker. A place he could point at later and say — that happened, right there. It was not a magic stone. It was a memory made visible, so a future Jacob on a hard day could not talk himself out of it.

We forget faster than we think. God answers a prayer and we are amazed for a week; three months later the same worry returns and we face it as though He has never once come through. Not because we are wicked, but because we never wrote it down.

Take the stone you slept on — the hard thing God met you in — and stand it up. A note in a book. A date in your phone. When the next night comes, you will want something to point at.

Prayer: Lord, help me mark what you have done, so I do not forget it when things get hard.

Today’s action: Write down one thing God has clearly done for you, with the date, and keep it where you will see it.
