You Are the Temple

1 Corinthians 3:16 (KJV)

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Paul asks it as a question, almost in surprise: know ye not? He expects this to be common knowledge and finds people living as though it is not.

We usually apply this verse to sin, and that is fair. But it also applies to something we rarely call spiritual: sleep, food, rest, pace, the way you push a body that has been asking you to stop for months. A temple can be dishonoured by neglect as easily as by misuse.

Many sincere believers are wearing out the only house God said He lives in, and calling it dedication. There is no honour in exhaustion. There is only a shorter run.

The Spirit does not dwell in your schedule or your reputation. He dwells in you. Look after the place — that is not self-indulgence, it is care for something God chose to move into.
