Draw Near and See

James 4:8 (KJV)

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

The order in this promise is uncomfortable and freeing. Draw nigh — then He draws near. Movement is expected from us first.

Many believers are stuck in a long wait. They are waiting to feel something before they pray, waiting for a sign before they obey, waiting for God to come close before they make any move towards Him. It sounds humble. It is actually a stalemate, and God has already told us who moves first.

Drawing near is not complicated. It is opening the book. It is saying the honest sentence you have been avoiding. It is going back to the place you stopped. Small movements, made without any feeling to support them.

And He responds. That is the promise. Not maybe, not if you do enough — He draws near to anyone who takes a step in His direction, however small and however late.
