A Rhythm You Can Keep
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.
God sends us to an insect for a lesson in building. The ant has no boss, no reminders and no motivational talks. What it has is a way — a built-in rhythm that runs whether or not it feels inspired.
That is the whole secret, and it is completely unglamorous. Most of what shapes a life is not decided in big moments. It is decided by what happens automatically: what you do in the first hour, what happens to money when it arrives, whether the family eats together, when you sleep.
Anything not designed will default to impulse, and impulse always chooses comfort.
You do not need to organise your whole life this week. Pick the one area where impulse is costing you most, and give it a rhythm simple enough that a tired version of you could still follow it.
Prayer: Lord, help me build rhythms that keep working on the days I do not feel like it.
Today’s action: Choose the area of your life running most on impulse and give it one simple written rhythm today.
Which part of your life is running on impulse rather than design?
