Guard the Gate of Your Attention
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Paul does not say feel these things. He says think on these things. That is a command about attention, and attention is something you can actually control.
You cannot always choose what enters your day. You can choose what you keep replaying. A comment, a headline, a video, a comparison — none of them harm you as they pass. They harm you when you invite them to stay and think about them all afternoon.
Look at the list. True. Honest. Just. Pure. Lovely. Of good report. That is a filter, and most of what floods our phones cannot pass through it. We would never eat food from a dirty pot, yet we let anything at all into our thinking and then wonder why we feel heavy.
Your mind is a garden, not a dustbin. Whatever you keep watering will grow. Today, water something worth harvesting.
Prayer: Lord, help me choose what I feed my mind, and give me the courage to put down what is poisoning me.
Today’s action: Name the one thing you consume daily that leaves you anxious or angry, and skip it today.
