Guided With His Eye

I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

There are three promises stacked here: instruct, teach, guide. God is not silent about direction. He speaks in more than one way.

But the last one is the tender one. I will guide thee with mine eye. You cannot be guided by someone's eye from across town. That kind of guidance only works at close range, between people who know each other well. A parent can steer a child across a crowded room with one look.

This explains something many believers experience. They ask God for direction in a crisis and hear nothing, and conclude He is not speaking. Often He is simply too far away to be seen — not because He moved, but because guidance by the eye needs nearness that was never built.

Closeness is not extra credit for the very spiritual. It is the thing that makes direction possible. Stay near, and a look will be enough.
