An Anchor for the Soul
Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast.
A ship in a storm does not stay in place because the sea is calm. It stays in place because the anchor holds. Under all that rough water, it is gripping something solid that no one can see. Scripture says that is exactly what hope does for your soul.
This hope is not wishful thinking — the kind that says, “I hope things work out.” It is a sure and stedfast anchor, fastened to a promise of God that never changes. The waves may still rise. The storm may still rage. But a soul with an anchor is not swept away.
Where have you dropped your anchor? If it is in your circumstances, you will drift every time they change. But hope anchored in God’s promise holds through any storm, because it is gripping something that cannot move — who God is, and He does not change. Let the storm do what it likes on the surface. Your soul is anchored to the One who never fails.
Prayer: Father, anchor my soul in Your promises. When the storms throw me about, hold me firm.
