Know the State of Your Flocks

Proverbs 27:23 (KJV)

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

The command is not own flocks. It is know the state of them. God ties good stewardship to accurate information.

Most money problems are not caused by low income. They are caused by not looking. We have a rough idea of what we earn, a vague idea of what we spend, and a strong feeling that things should be working out better than they are. Feelings are a poor accounting system.

Looking is uncomfortable because looking removes excuses. As long as the numbers stay blurry, we can believe the problem is the economy or the salary. The moment they are written down, we usually find two or three quiet leaks that have been draining us for years.

This is not about guilt. A shepherd counts his sheep because he loves them, not because he is punishing himself. Count yours today. You cannot fix what you refuse to see.

Prayer: Lord, give me courage to look honestly at my numbers instead of guessing.

Today’s action: Write down exactly what you earned and spent last month — the real figures, not the ones you assume.

Reflect

Do you actually know your numbers, or are you managing by feeling?
