You Become What You Rehearse

Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.

Not as he speaks. Not as he posts. As he thinketh in his heart, so is he.

There is a version of you that only you hear. It runs quietly during the day and loudly at night, and it says things like: this always happens to me, I am not the kind of person who succeeds, I will probably mess this up too. Nobody else hears it. Everybody else sees its results.

That inner sentence is not a description of your life. It is an instruction to it. Over time, we behave our way into whatever we have been rehearsing. A man who believes he is careless does not bother being careful, and then points at the mess as proof.

So the work is deeper than trying harder. It is changing the sentence. Find one lie you have been repeating about yourself and put God's word in its place — and then say the new one until it sounds normal.

Prayer: Lord, change what I believe about myself down where nobody else can see.

Today’s action: Catch one sentence you say about yourself today and replace it with what God says.
